Charlotte Ann Jernigan Hypes was born July 10, 1933 on Snow Hill in Brooksville, Florida. She passed away peacefully in her home on December 26, 2023. She was a 3rd generation native of Brooksville dating back to the 1850s.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her loving husband, Victor Eugene Hypes; parents, Jay Pittman Jernigan and Mary Snow Jernigan; siblings, Pittman Jernigan, Max Jernigan, Nell Jernigan Austin, and Leona Jernigan Sellers.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Mallory Jernigan (Pat); sister, Patricia Jernigan McQuaig (Terry); and sister-in-law, Wanda Jernigan. She is also survived by her beautiful children, Marsha Hypes Hopkins (Dan), Jay Hypes (Beth), Jeff Hypes (Peggy) and wonderful grandchildren, Bobby Person, Elsie Ritchie, Caroline Ritchie, Bailey Hypes, Aubrey Hypes, Virginia Ritchie, Kayla Spivey, Ariel Hitchcock, and Justin Hypes; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and lovely great-grandchildren.
Charlotte owned and operated Hernando Concrete for 20 years as well as worked alongside her husband as bookkeeper for Hypes Heating & Air. Her passions were BINGO, golf, bowling, traveling, and spending time with her precious family. Charlotte believed in family and passing on traditions as she researched and studied the humble beginnings of her ancestry as they came to occupy Chinsegut Hill and her family dwelling on Snow Hill. She was a proud American who actively participated and supported the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary, and the Colonial Dames of America.
Charlotte is very thankful for Jeff Hypes, Marsha Hopkins, Patricia McQuaig, Terry McQuaig, Lynn Johnston, Peggy Hypes, and Sue Ann Pranger White for lovingly caring for her in her final years.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Eden Baptist Church, 22308 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601, where Funeral Services begin at 12:00pm, with Pastor David Hope officiating. A Graveside Service will will follow at Lake Lindsey Cemetery, 22371 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to be made to Eden Baptist Church in Lake Lindsay, the VFW, or Hospice of Florida.
