STEWARD, Arthur Thomas, 94, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018 at Barbara’s Adult Family Care Home where he resided for over one year receiving compassionate and professional care.
Arthur is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, June and his brother, Harry. He is survived by his five children: Lynette Ruths (Don) of Brooksville, Florida, Gary Steward (Marie) of Québec, Canada, Richard Steward of Ontario, Canada, Diane Steward of Utah and Carolyn Sherman (Michael) of Utah; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Arthur was born in Johannesburg in the former Union of South Africa on Christmas Day 1923. As a young lad of 16, he and his brother, Harry, worked as Mess boys on a South African whaling factory ship out of Durban. Following the outbreak of WWII, Arthur volunteered to serve as a signaler in the Union Defense Forces of South Africa participating in the Great Allied offensive at El Alamein, Egypt and the Italian campaign serving over three years in WWII combat actions. In June of 1948, while employed at Coca-Cola of South Africa in Cape Town, he traveled to Canterbury, England, to marry his pen pal sweetheart, June, and shortly after they immigrated to Canada. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1970, with multiple postings in Europe and Canada. Upon his retirement he and his family moved permanently to the United States. After settling in Land O’Lakes, Florida, Arthur and June spent the next forty years working and traveling around the world between homes in Ogden, Utah and Florida, before retiring permanently in Brooksville.
