Arthur H. Baker
Art passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his home in Spring Hill, Florida, surrounded by family.
He was born in Atlanta, Michigan on April 27, 1945, the son of Harold and Helen (Dowker) Baker. Art proudly served his country in the Vietnam War for the United States Army. He continued his service as a law enforcement officer in Montmorency County, Michigan for 18 years. He then went on to become a private investigator after he moved to Florida.
Art was a jack of all trades kind of guy; he could fix anything that was broken or nearly so. His garage was his sanctuary, nothing was out of place. He was very meticulous with his tools, if you used it, you better put it back in the same place you found it. He was also a loving man to his friends and family, if you needed something, he was always there with a lending hand or tool, or both. Art also loved life on the family farm on Baker Road in Atlanta, Michigan where he enjoyed hunting with the family from the bus body.
When Art “retired” while he was living in Florida, he was involved in Spring Hill Dixie League out at Anderson Snow, in Florida, for 15 or more years where he served on the board as a commissioner of the Dixie Boys League for 5 or more years where they won two (2) State Championships under his leadership. Art was always the guy you could lean on to point you in the right direction when you needed anything. Art had several youths go thru baseball while he was their mentor, he has raised more than just his children during this time. Art has raised a number of boys throughout his days at the ball field. Not a day went by that Art wasn’t at the field walking the base line or standing next to the fence cheering on the boys during those 15 or more years.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Larry) Areaux, Hope (Kenny) Rosso, Vickie (Jason) Deso, Ryan (Cassandra) Guy, Steven Baker, Brandon Baker, Austin Baker, and Kaitlyn Baker; sister Majel (Bob) Anderson, brothers Douglas, Richard (Margaret), and Keith (Belinda); grandchildren, Chad, Cory, Rylan, Grayson, Tyler, Dylan, Riley, and Raelyn, and several nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles, and infant sister, June.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00pm, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel, where Funeral Services will begin at 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or HPH Hospice.
