He was raised in Parkchester, Bronx and attended the prestigious High School of Art and Design. After graduating, he enrolled in college at the School Of Visual Arts. This ultimately led to employment at Marvel Comics under Stan Lee where he received credit for inking Marvel Superheroes and X-Factor. On October 11, 2004 he met his wife Joeann Stokes-Tapia a few years into his tenure at GreenPoint Mortgage. 3 years later they welcomed their third child.
In 2014 Santiago joined the MTA family as a train operator, a job he absolutely loved. During this time, he fulfilled a passion of his by joining a softball team named Moonshine. One year later Santiago and Joeann were officially married.
Santiago Tapia Jr meant the world to his family, friends and coworkers. He was always there for his family and others in times of need. He will be deeply missed and loved by all who knew him. We are all comforted knowing that he touched so many lives throughout his life with his natural sense of humor, artistic talent and kind ways. His presence on this earth will never be forgotten nor replaced. Santiago Tapia Jr will always and forever stay embedded in our hearts.
Santiago was an outstanding man. He was an extraordinary artist, a comedian, and a loving son, son in law, brother, brother in law, uncle, friend, the best husband, and the greatest father. Sadly, Santiago passed away on the evening of April 23, 2020 in Brooklyn, NY leaving behind a legacy that includes his wife Joeann Stokes-Tapia, three children Rachelle, Karl and Santiago III and a host of family and friends.
