Uncle Mel always asked me who was my favorite uncle. The fact is that I grew up closest to Uncle Melly; he had an unfair advantage in the category of "my favorite uncle," and he knew it. He always carried a picture of my sister, Marcia, in his wallet, ever since she died as a young woman with an 8 year old son, and spoke about how they'd meet for lunch when they both were working in Downtown Brooklyn. I haven't visited Uncle Mel in a while, since even before he and Aunt Roz moved to the nursing home, and I regret that, but I did call him every once in a while to say hello. I will always remember him with a smile and a bit of sadness-- but more with the smile, because he was such a "character." Uncle Mel-- You'll always be my favorite uncle. Love, Your nephew Marc.
