getting his first Encyclopedia from John's mother , Mary .  R.I.P. to them all  now.

Aunt Mary was such a special lady. She had the warmest, brightest smile and had a heart of gold. Uncle John and herself were so good to come over for our wedding in 2009, given that it was winter especially. I  appreciate that all the more now with my own parents being older.  But Aunt Mary was young at heart and loved to be around family, and it was great that they made the trip then.  They got to see Auntie Teresa, uncle Tom, mum and Irish Gallahues too. Our day was all the more special because of their presence.  I will always remember uncle John's face when William made his speech and said something non PC, and uncle John put his head down and laughed his heart out!!

Every time we visited New York Aunt Mary was so kind, welcoming and made you feel like you were at home in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.  And as for the  fabulous meals, banana bread, muffins etc, they were so delicious and she made it all look effortless!
You could tell how proud Aunt Mary and Uncle John were of all their children, grandchildren,how much they loved them and loved having them around! You could also tell how much all the family- inlaws included, loved being around them too!18 Prospect Park was a real hub of love, fun, laughter, family and food!
Aunt Mary was one of a kind, a true gem and will be greatly missed❤️

We met Mary 39 years ago when she became the babysitter for Hugh (aka "Hughie"), our then 6-week old son.  Over the next three years, he spent most weekdays with Mary, her family and several other children she cared for.  He loved being at her house, playing with the other kids, going rain-or-shine to Prospect Park with whichever kids she had that day and devouring the many snacks and meals she made for him, always insisting that no one, including his parents, made as good peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as she did.  During the summers, he spent idyllic days with Mary and her family at Breezy where, to our eternal gratitude, she toilet-trained him.  She was like a third parent to him and she is indelibly in his memory.  A few months ago, Hugh took his own young son to meet Mary who greeted them with her always-present warmth and generosity.  Our family feels incredibly fortunate to have known her and will think of her always with deep admiration and love.

Heartfelt condolences to the family of Mary!!!  What an inspiration she was to her family and what a legacy Mary leaves behind!!!  Love, The ARIAS family from 16th street!!!

Every time I picked  up my sons Brian and Andrew Geraghty they had a loaf of soda bread tucked into their stroller.  I still use her receipt for soda bread every St Patrick’s day.  Mary and her family were the most loving family to care for my children.  My sincere condolences to all the family

When I heard the news of Mary's passing, I was heartbroken. She was a person of immense goodness, generosity, love, and care. I remember our first meeting vividly; her energy was remarkable as she chased the kids around the house while preparing a meal fit for a king—John, her loving, doting husband, and her beautiful children and grandchildren. She showed me photos of her extended family with pride and joy. Family was everything to Mary, and it was evident in the loving gestures she and John extended to everyone. I can picture them now, together again, listening to Irish music on the radio and sharing a dance.

As the Irish poet W.B. Yeats once wrote, "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends."

I can think of no better charity to donate to than World Central Kitchen, as their mission to feed the hungry and help those in need matches Mary's personality and generosity.

Thank you, Mary, for everything you and your family have provided me over the years. Your kindness and love will always be remembered.                                                                                                                   Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Mary was wonderful to my family and was my daughter’s caregiver from infancy. My condolences to Mary’s large and beautiful family. It was a treat to attend Mary and John’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Mary left a light in this world that will ever shine brightly.

My condolences on the passing of your beautiful mother Mary.  My son Stuart was one of the 80 children your mother babysat for..from 1 1/2 years old til 4.. Kathleen and Rita did the summer shift taking about 6 kids to Coney island on the train! We'd drop him off at Mary's..7:30 am she'd be waiting.. we'd run across the street F train. Ok now memory lane...Big box of Corn Flakes in her kitchen every morning, walk to the playground holding on to a wagon, back for lunch, diaper change, nap. Up and a delicious meal before the parents picked up.  Not to mention birthdays for every child, she'd buy presents at the store on the avenue, wrap them, (I don't wrap!) and all parents singing in your basement with cupcakes and Irish soda bread🤗 Mary would bring Stuart with I believe Ryan and Suzanne, two other kids to Breezy to stay for a while...she also kept Stuart with her on PPSW for a week or so if I was traveling. Such beautiful memories for me and Stuart..he remembers it all❤️ God Bless you all..your Mother is on the express elevator to Heaven🙏💕 with love, Meg LaDuca and family

Grandma Mary always put everyone before herself.  She fed you, hugged you, and made sure you were well.  I’ve enclosed this pic from 2019 of Issy (age 1.5years) because it brings me such joy.  Grandma clapping hands and entertaining the littles, something she did with grace and ease always.  I am so sad she has left us, but happy to have known her.  God Bless Grandma.

Dear Mary, Rita and Patricia and all of your amazing extended family,

Your incredible matriarch was truly an inspiration to me and legions of other women working hard to raise our families with kindness, gospel values, Irish culture, faith and neverending support. I will be thinking of you all during this very sad time.

They say about raising kids: “It takes a village.” Your mom was a one-woman village, a force of nature, a caregiver extraordinaire. Ladies like her are absolute treasures and I am particularly grateful to her for the three amazing daughters she provided PS 230, with whom I was privileged to work. 

I’m away, not in Brooklyn until after the funeral, so I cannot pay my respects right away. But I will in the near future.

Mary truly treated everyone like family and instilled that sense warmth and kindness in her children and grandchildren. She lived a long, beautiful life but with someone so special there is never enough time. My heart is with all of her loved ones, many of whom are like family to me.

This wonderful person simply made a difference in the lives of many.

Deepest condolences from all of us at Hebrew Public. May Mary's memory be a blessing. Her strong family values and care for others will continue to inspire, and we know that her wonderful granddaughter Lauren, who loved her so much, will carry on her legacy.

I will miss our nightly phone calls on FaceTime, where I was guaranteed to hear you say “I’m here” after I asked how were you, or if I asked did you need anything and you would reply “a million dollars” with a big smile and chuckle when telling me.  Or you telling Patricia to get your lipstick before I arrived into the living room to see you both. 

Your beautiful smile, huge personality will be greatly missed by me and everyone else. I will  remember our first dance together as we waltzed around the dance floor. Grandma you were an inspiration to so many and have touched so many life’s it is absolutely incredible what one lady could do. Patricia and I hope to continue your legacy as we move through this crazy world. I love you and will miss you. RIP Grandma well deserved. Xoxoxo
