Born on September 3, 1988 to his loving parents, Song Suk Wolf (Mun), and Howard James Wolf, Kevin was a quiet and inquisitive child always seeking to better understand the world around him. At 3 years old, Kevin began his first and most cherished job as a big brother to Lauren, a role he fulfilled with great responsibility and pride. Kevin graduated from Northview High School in 2006 and continued his education at Grand Valley State University, where he received a Bachelor's in Science in 2010 followed by a Master's in Physician Assistant Studies in 2012. Kevin began his career and spent six remarkable years in the Emergency Department at Mercy Health (Trinity Health) Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids, MI. Always a dog lover, he adopted his first canine companion, Emery, in 2010. Emery adored Kevin and stayed by his side as they traversed life’s adventures together.
Kevin persevered with the love and support of his partner, Cody, whom he met and began dating in 2018. Kevin always dreamed of living in New York City, and this dream became a reality in 2019 when he, Cody, and Emery moved to Brooklyn, NY. Kevin and many others mourned the loss of Emery later that year. Kevin continued his career as a Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY until his passing. In 2020, Kevin and his colleagues began fighting COVID-19 on the front lines of the pandemic’s U.S. epicenter. Despite the constant Brooklyn buzz, Kevin and Cody felt a certain emptiness without a dog. In May 2020, they rescued and brought Maverick home. Together they traveled, loved each other unconditionally, and made countless memories together.
Kevin had a profound appreciation for Korean culture, stemming from his mother's upbringing in South Korea. In 2013, Kevin took his mom back to her home in Korea for the first time in 35 years. During this trip, their lives were forever changed as they reunited with family and immersed themselves in the rich traditions, food, and landscapes of her native country. This journey not only strengthened his bond with his Korean roots but also provided him with memories that he held dear throughout his life, including a solo trip he took there again in 2018.
Basketball was a passion throughout Kevin’s life. From driveway games, to basketball camps across the country, to playing on the high school varsity team, and adult leagues in NYC, the sport remained a constant. He also had a deep love for hip hop and R&B music, sneakers, and most recently, designing custom watches for his friends and family. All who knew Kevin will remember him for his calm demeanor and gentle soul.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Song Wolf and Howard Wolf, his sister, Lauren Wolf, his partner, Cody Vermillion, and his loyal dog, Maverick. He is preceded in death by his grandfather and friend Herbert Wolf, Aunt Lisa Harbut (Wolf), and dear friends Michael Reeves Jr., and Navarre Hale. He is dearly loved and will be missed tremendously.
A private viewing has been held for the family and Kevin’s wishes to be cremated will be fulfilled. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Korean K9 Rescue.
