Born on March 9, 1960, in Brooklyn, Joe was the youngest of six siblings and the "baby" of the O’Boyle family. He often joked about being his parents' favorite, a claim that was hard to dispute.
Joe was a graduate of Bishop Ford High School and earned a tennis scholarship to St. Francis College. He traveled the world as a Merchant Marine before settling into a career in the tri-state area, where he worked for multiple health and environmental testing firms.
Those who knew Joe will remember him for his kind heart, generosity, and remarkable sense of humor. He had an extraordinary ability to bring joy and laughter to any gathering.
A true Brooklynite, Joe lived his entire life in Windsor Terrace. He was a long-standing NY Rangers fan, a passionate music lover, and a gifted guitar player. His favorite places included Prospect Park, Riis Park, Hampton Bays, and Windsor Terrace, where he was known as “Gator” to his lifelong friends from Fuller Place.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth (Cregg) O’Boyle. He is survived by his siblings, John, Betty Burke, Moira Cuite, Pat Harris, and Jim, along with his sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen and Doreen. He is also survived by his eleven nieces and nephews, thirteen great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. His passing leaves us heartbroken.
The O’Boyle family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Brooklyn Hospital Emergency Department, New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Downtown Brooklyn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Calvary Hospital. Their compassionate care in Joe's final months was nothing short of heroic.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, September 28th, in Metuchen, New Jersey. All who knew and loved Joe are welcome to attend. For details, please contact one of Joe’s siblings.
