George was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent his entire life there. George was the youngest child of Lim Poon, who holds the Guinness world record for time spent surviving on a life raft alone at sea. Upon graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School, George continued to further his education earning his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and later his master’s degree from New York University. After graduating, he began his career in the financial services industry taking on various positions in the banking, trading, and insurance sectors.
George always put family first. He married and had two sons whom he raised with constant encouragement to chase opportunities in order to grow and learn. Every night, he would call his mother Mary to make sure she was alright, even on the days that he had already spent with her. George loved his family dearly and showed this by pouring his soul into working hard to ensure that they were provided for, free of any worries, and set up for success. George loved traveling and experiencing new and different things. His favorite travel destination was to national parks to hike and to take in nature’s unblemished landscape. George always liked to try to stay active. He biked to work everyday for a total of twelve miles per day, and even in the winter months weather permitting. He loved to ski, play basketball, tennis, and touch football with friends. George was at his best in social activities. He was the go to for remembering names and past events, was always reliable to be the designated driver, and in his younger days was known to be a magnet for girls. George was a humble, peace loving man and will be missed by all his friends and family. George is survived by his wife Helen, his two sons Mitchell and Evan, his mother Mary, his sisters Lillian, Linda and Janet, and by his many beloved nieces and nephews.
