It is with deep love that we announce the passing of Edward G. Dunn Jr (Eddie), KHS, KCTJ, 79, of Rockaway Park, New York passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Born on November 18, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Rose Frances (nee O’Loughlin) Dunn, DHS and the late Edward Gerard Dunn, KM. Loving fiancé of Mary A. Strcic. Beloved brother of Walter, Thomas, Meg Dunn, and the late Robert. Loving uncle of Jeffrey, Matthew, Alana, Sean, Kyle, and great niece Sophia Dunn.
Eddie was a 3rd generation Funeral Director, licensed in the State of New York since 1970 (retired in March 2021), former manager of McManus Funeral Home, and a member of The Catholic Cemetery Guild, Diocese of Brooklyn. Former Chair of the Board of Directors, Midwood Catholic Academy. He was Invested as a Knight in The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and Knight Commander of The Sovereign Military Order of The Temple of Jerusalem, Priory of St. Patrick. He was the former First Vice President of the St. Patrick’s Society of Brooklyn (Irish Businessman of the Year 2008) and was named as the 2005 Honorary Band Member of the Year, New York City Corrections Department Pipe Band.
He served for 8 years in the 69th Infantry, The Fighting Sixty Ninth, as a Platoon Sergeant (SFC) and Career Counselor Supervisor (Battalion Staff) and was a member of the Veteran Corps, 69th Regiment for over 50 years. Former member of the Board of Directors of the Veteran Corps (Member of the Family Support Fund Finance Committee) and Assistant Historian, Regimental Headquarters, 69th Regiment. He was assigned the distinction, by the Order of the Secretary of the Army, as Distinguished Member of The Regiment, June 2015. A graduate of the American Academy- McAllister Institute of Funeral Service and continued his education at St. Francis College where he received his associate in applied science and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in 1974. Eddie will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit lives on through the lives he touched. We thank you for being part of his life.
Friends may call at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 9th Street Brooklyn, NY on Tuesday, April 15, from 2-5 and 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Saviour R. C. Church on Wednesday, April 16 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
