Daniel Joseph O'Leary was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. Patient and easy-going, Dan cared for others in the purest way. He loved people for who they were and wished only the best for them. Always generous with his time and attention, helping others was just in his nature. Strangers and acquaintances alike were greeted by his ever present smile and cheerful hello. A life long resident of Park Slope, Dan wouldn't think of living anywhere else. He loved Brooklyn, and his apartment overlooking Prospect Park.
Known for his slow, relaxed stride, Dan O' was faster in water than on land. A State Champion in the 100 meters, his backstroke was poetry in motion. His record at Brooklyn Technical HS remained unbeaten for decades. His swimming skills served him well as a lifeguard in Breezy Point, where he made cherished friends. He possessed an impressive knowledge of all music, but his favorite artists remained Billy Joel, AC/DC, and the Dubliners. He was a loyal Mets fan, and claimed all of of life's moments went back to a Seinfeld episode. A Carpenter by trade with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Dan was meticulous in all details of construction.
Dan and his partner, Cathy, met in 2006. They enjoyed traveling the country together, particularly to our National Parks: Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and Bryce. Dan was always overwhelmed by their beauty and magnificence.
Dan is predeceased by his mother, Helen, whom he adored. He is survived by his father, George, partner Cathy Deutsch, sisters Helena McCahey (Steve) and Mary Mulcahey (Fred), niece, Katie, nephews Matthew, Stephen, Kevin (Faith), Kieran, Sean, and George, extended family in the US and Ireland, and many loyal friends.

Danny had so much goodness, and such capacity to bring happiness to others. The lives of all who knew him were better for having him in it. Gone too soon, this world is a lesser place without him.
