Loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, Stephen “Steve” Robert Oppenheimer, 70, died peacefully at home in Weston, MA on May 6, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. A native of El Paso, Steve spent the last 44 years of his life living in Boston and the surrounding area.
The most important people to Steve were his wife Audrey Pepper, son Graham, his mother Irene Oppenheimer, sisters Nancy Laster (Ross Dahman) and Lisa Kleinman (Bill), his brother-in law Robert Pepper (Linda), his sister-in-law Susan Levene (Patricia Garcia-Rios), his nieces Rachel Green and Hannah Leach, his nephew Noah Pepper, and numerous close friends and co-workers. Steve had an extraordinary relationship with his sisters, for whom he would drop everything, being there in person or as a long-distance shoulder to lean on. As “big brother” to Dan Sherman, who he met 40+ years ago through Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston, he has had an unwavering close relationship. He was pre-deceased by his father Larry Oppenheimer.
Steve earned his B.A. in Architecture from Rice University and an M.S. in Management from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. He had a long and successful career in architecture in the Boston area and retired from Tsoi Kobus Design in 2023. A resident of Weston, MA for more than 25 years, he served his community as a member of the town’s Planning Board and Historic Commission.
Steve was the kindest, sweetest and most caring person. All who met him were instantly at ease with him, enjoying his generosity and great sense of humor. He had the capacity to make everyone feel heard and special.
Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Mass General Cancer Center, Doctors Without Borders or an organization of your choice. May his memory be a blessing.
