Ruth Ann Berezin was born to Russian Immigrants, Sam and Fannie (Fliegelman) Berezin on March 21, 1923 in Norwood, MA. Ruth was a graduate of Norwood High School and the Beth Israel School of Nursing. Ruth worked as a Beth Israel nurse for several years and kept active with the Beth Israel Alumni Association. She worked for private physicians when she left the BI. She met the late Walter I. Weiner at the Temple Israel youth group. They married in 1949 and raised their family in Newton Centre. Ruth worked along side Walter at the Wellesley clothing store they owned, Anne Starr, Inc. They later moved to Chestnut Hill. Walter died in 2010. In 2022 Ruth moved to North Hill in Needham to independent living where she played canasta and was in the choir. She briefly resided in the Nursing care wing where she spent her last days with comfort and dignity.
Ruth and Walter were founding members of Temple Shalom of West Newton where she remained a lifelong member. She was active in the Garden Club and Sisterhood. She attended HLIR, Harvard Learning in Retirement for 21 years. She was an avid sports fan and always kept up with current events. She and Walter loved to travel, were lifelong Boston Symphony goers and gourmands.
She will forever be remembered for her parties, pies, flower arrangements and cosmos. She adored her family and took pride and pleasure in all they did. Her love of family encompassed all of her many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Ruth was a devoted wife, loving mother of Karen and the late Joel Siegel of Newton Centre, MA, Joyce and Stephen Salter of Walnut Creek, CA, Susan and Jimmy Shulman of West Newton, MA. Grandmother to Rachel and Jeff Vogel, Jeremy Siegel and Margot Stamas, Alex and Heather Salter, Andrea Shulman, Jamie and Marc Weiner. Great grandmother to Eli, Rebekah and Caleb Salter, Julia and Max Vogel, Maeve and Zach Siegel and Renee Bentley and Jack Walter Weiner. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ida (Jack) Levy, Mae (Leon) Drezner, Martin (Evelyn) and Norman (Hope)Berezin.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon on Sunday, October 13 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow. Shiva will be at Karen's home on Sunday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and on Monday from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
