On Thursday, January 27th, 2022, Roslyn Gladstein (Guttenberg) passed away peacefully after living life to the fullest for almost 97 years. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Arthur Gladstein. Devoted mother of Michael & Marilyn Gladstein and Deborah Ancona & Dan Miller. Adored grandmother of Emily Gladstein, Marisa Ancona & John Spivey, Anna (Ancona) & Tom Babineau, Laura Ancona, and Alberto “Bertie” Ancona.
Born to Eastern European immigrants, Roslyn was raised in Yorkville, New York, and attended Hunter College. She later received her master’s degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University and subsequently put her education to work at New York Hospital and The South Shore Child Guidance Center. With a clear passion for learning and making the world better, she was a career pioneer and role model to women. Throughout her life, people were drawn to her welcoming personality and profoundly positive and giving outlook.
Rosyln and Arthur, her late husband of 45 years, loved to attend family events and travel the world with friends. In her widowed years, she moved back to the same Manhattan neighborhood where she was born and enjoyed all the cultural attractions that New York City has to offer. She curated a chic apartment brimming with eclectic antiques collected over many shopping forays. This was the site of many social gatherings with children, grandchildren, old friends and new.
Roslyn will be deeply missed by many, and, as she would have said, she had a great run!
In lieu of flowers, donations in Roslyn’s memory may be made to The Hunter College Foundation, https://hunter.cuny.edu/give/ , or DOROT, www.dorotusa.org/donate
