Rosamond "Arbee" (Libby) Beck, of Boston, on Wednesday, October 1st , 2014. Loving Mother of Bruce, Judy and her husband, Jonathan, Daniel, Jere and his wife, Linda. Devoted Grandmother of Julianne, Eitan and Ilan. Sister of Paula Feldman, Elinor Bennett and Pat Libby. A child of the Depression, Arbee learned compassion from her humanitarian, obstetrician father, who accepted payment in potatoes or chickens for delivering babies. Often he worked graciously for no payment, to the concern of his wife. Excited early in life by words, books and the business world, Arbee worked for many years at the Houghton Mifflin Publishing company in Boston. Perfection at work, warmth and support at home; a feminist before her time. In retirement, she continued working for former Houghton Mifflin CEO Harold Miller transcribing and editing his books, among them, "Publishing: A Leap from Mind to Mind". In all, she began working at 16, typed her last page of notes at 80, and raised a family in between. For fun she enjoyed marathon Scrabble sessions and Red Sox baseball. Her passion for astrology and numerology engaged people. Always interested in their lives, and later their birthdates for analysis, people were drawn to her positive outlook and sensed her interest in them. An avid reader, we were encouraged to travel the world through books. She had a faultless optimism and always saw the best in people. Arbee was kind and loving and always supportive of our endeavors; hugs and the right words at the right time. Life's many challenges were met with determination and a positive attitude. She often reminded us that the world was filled with good and interesting people. Though she was not large in stature, she had a huge impact on the lives of family and friends. Arbee was a wonderful mother and friend; she will live forever in our hearts. Memorial observance 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12th, 2014 at the home of Bruce Beck. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Good Shepard Community Hospice.
