Ron was born in Newark, NJ on August 29, 1936 to Drs. Sydney and Zelda Rosenthal.
He began his studies at the University of Michigan in 1954 and graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in 1961. During his last year of residency at the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, he was drafted into military service and spent his first year in Vietnam. He was later stationed at Ft. Devens, MA, where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Roz.
Ron was passionate about his chosen field of Orthopedic Surgery, which gave him the opportunity to teach as well as to practice medicine. He was highly regarded in the medical community and was elected as a Regent of the American College of Surgeons as well as acting as a consultant on a manual on trauma used to train emergency personnel. He took great pleasure in teaching residents and carried his love for teaching into retirement where he taught many courses on history, his other great passion, at institutes of lifelong learning.
Ron is survived by his wife Roz and daughters Cynthia of Cambridge and Deborah of Brookline, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Martin, of Phoenix, AZ and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved him dearly.
He is predeceased by his twin brother, Richard, of Lexington, MA.
