Nicci will be missed by co-parent Susan Shea and close friends Doris, Dele, Allison, Andrea, Jocylyn, Vera, Marjorie, Tim, Leah and so many more.
Nicci was born in Liberty, New York, on September 21, 1963. She spent afternoons at her Zayde’s dairy while her father “zamined” eyes in his optometry office next door. Weekends were filled playing neighborhood games on and around Willey Avenue and at Hebrew School where she fought the patriarchy with her oldest childhood friend, Allison Levinson, by praying, chanting and singing louder than the boys to let them know they were not to be ignored. Summers were spent playing tennis at Brown's Hotel, while fall and winter were spent traveling with her Liberty Central debate team. Nicci graduated from Liberty Central High School in 1981 and went on to graduate from the University of Rochester, with degrees in Women’s Studies and Political Science. Following her undergraduate studies, Nicci earned her J.D. from Northeastern University, launching her decade’s long career fighting for social justice in every way possible. A strong supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment; she worked to defend women and women's rights and freedoms during both her work life and in her spare time.
This pursuit of equality and freedom for others did not end once Nicci retired. She used that time to write grants for many nonprofit organizations and volunteered at local farms in the summer. Nicci was also able to spend more of her time developing her creative talents, which included but were definitely not limited to poetry, photography and collage. The thing that Nicci loved the most was being able to spend time with her daughter Hayden, whether that was going out on an adventure or staying at home watching bad movies. Any day with Hayden was a great day!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her service held at Congregation Beth El, 105 Hudson Road, Sudbury on Thursday August 15, 2024 10:30 AM, followed by interment at the Framingham Natick Hebrew Cemetery, Fairview Avenue, Natick.
