Rothstein, Natalie Louise (Manson) passed away November 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Natalie grew up in Brookline, where she was the only child of Frank and Francis Manson. Natalie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Alan Davis Rothstein. They were happily married for 63 years. She is survived by her children, Peter H. Rothstein and wife CC Cave, Steven Maze Rothstein and wife Susan Maze-Rothstein, Katie Paikin and husband David Paikin, and her six grandchildren and their partners, Galen (and Jamie), Megan (and Shafaq), Jessye (and Kirk) Leah, Adam (and Mo) Isaac (and Lissah). She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren, Asheem, Wyatt, Wesley, Marina, Reed, Shreya, Macy and Maggie.
Natalie spent most of her life in Brookline where she attended Brookline schools, met Alan and together they raised their family. Natalie lived in Coolidge Corner Brookline for nearly all of her life. The exception to living in Brookline was 1959 – 1961, when Alan served in the US Army as a Captain and physician and Alan, Natalie and the three Rothstein children lived off-base in a neighboring rustic, German village.
She made lifelong friends whom she cherished. Natalie was very involved in Brookline Democratic town politics as well as numerous community and volunteer endeavors. She previously served as a Brookline Town Meeting Member, member of the Brookline Democratic Town Committee and active in numerous community and political activities.
She was an avid reader and free-lance writer, publishing many articles, short stories and her book An American Family (1999). She has also been a staff reporter for a suburban women’s newspaper, a children’s television advocacy organization and an arts and entertainment reporter for Brookline Cablevision.
She enjoyed crosswords, needlepoint, gardening, baking, traveling, especially to Cape Cod, long walks and above all her ever growing and loving family.
We are grateful for the wonderful care Natalie received from her aides, Prossy and Jullian, the caring staff at the Memory Unit at Benchmark at Waltham Crossing and Care Dimensions Hospice Care.
