Mary S. Langer, of Newton Centre, formerly of 11 Tudor Rd. and Beverwyck, in the Albany area, followed by Springhouse Senior Living in Jamaica Plain in 2007, before moving to Newton in 2020, died peacefully on April 28, 2024 at the age of 100. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Robert S. Langer, Sr., sisters, Hannah Penrose and Florence S. Hearst, and son-in-law, Brian Bower. She is survived by her children, Dr. Robert S. Langer [MIT] (and wife Laura) and Katherine Bower (of Williamsburg, VA); her grandchildren, Michael Langer, Susan Langer Denner (and Alexander), Samuel Langer (and Rüya), and great grandchild, Penelope (Poppy) Denner. She was also fortunate to have several wonderful caregivers and friends, most notably Luciana Lanciani, whose dedication and commitment were unsurpassed.
Mary was born in Albany, New York on September 20, 1923 to the late Jerome and Cora (Lewi) Swartz. She graduated Milne High School (1941) and the Mildred Elley Administrative Program and subsequently worked as a stenographer for the New York State Dept. of Law. She dedicated her life to her children and cherished spending time with her family and friends.
