Four years and I still miss her.

I had the joy and honor of meeting  Ms. Tarlow at her exhibition at the Danforth Art Museum at her last show there. In her generosity of spirit and humility, she spoke with me about one piece of her work that truly resonated with me; her cityscape crafted from Braille Code. I am an amateur artist and Certified Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired. We made a grand connection and Lois generously allowed me to continue to speak with her about art via phone calls. I even had a few of my students braille some American stories and poems for her so that she might work to create more art using this fabulous material. 
I so enjoyed our brief acquaintance and I am deeply saddened by the news of her passing. Emerson wrote about making a difference for someone else as a sign of success. I think Emerson would say she was successful because of her unfailing gift of herself to others.

Lois  was a wonderful artist who I had the privilege of meeting through Gateway Arts.   Her son and niece are also artists I have the privilege of knowing.  She was part of a family quite devoted to the arts who made a difference in the local art scene and beyond.
