Kate died in peace and comfort after a five-year struggle with breast cancer. Along the way she touched many people’s lives with her kindness, generosity and good humor. She became a figure of resilience and courage, who gave encouragement, support and hope to other survivors she met during her journey.
Kate was born to Ed and Polly Rauh in Los Angeles, CA. The family moved to Stamford, CT in her early childhood where she grew up with her brothers Tom and Edward, playing in their quiet, leafy neighborhood outside the city.
Kate headed off to Smith College to study Government and Economics, after which she joined Mutual of New York followed by employment in several startup tech companies before finally finding the perfect match with Amazon.
Kate met her husband, Simon, in a chance encounter at a bar in Virginia in 1993, shortly after he had arrived in the States from London on business. They began dating, and two years later were married at a ceremony in Pound Ridge, NY. Their personalities complemented each other perfectly and in marriage they were greater than the sum of their parts. They made homes together in Virginia, Seattle and Boston. They remained happily married for 29 years and were together until the end.
Kate is survived by her husband, Simon, her mom Polly, her brother Tom and a large extended family of nieces and nephews, friends and work colleagues. She was loved and we will miss her every day.
