Joseph (Joe) Samuel Dwyer of Boston, Massachusetts passed away on Saturday October 28, 2023 at the age of 83 years old. He was born on May 6,1940 in Providence, Rhode Island where he grew up. He graduated from Hope High School, Bryant College with a degree in Business, and received his Master of Science from The University of Rhode Island. He started his career at Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Toledo, Ohio, worked at Westinghouse Corporation in Maryland, and he worked for over 30 years at Raytheon Corporation until his retirement in 1999. Joe Dwyer is survived by his wife of 60 years, artist Rebecca (Becky) Leviss Dwyer, daughter Karen Dwyer-Archambault & life-partner Jay Paquette, and his granddaughter Sarah Archambault. Joe is also survived by all his many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his daughter Rachel Dov Dwyer, who passed away in 2020. He is also predeceased by his parents, Harry F. & Sonia Dwyer, and his siblings Seymour Rosen, Barbara Feldstein, Thomas Dwyer, and Patricia Roberts. Joe was an amazing one-of-a kind husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and loved his family dearly.
Joe and Becky were world travelers, including living in Paris, visiting 18 countries and 44 states throughout their unforgettable years together. Joe’s favorite hobbies were walking and cooking, owning over 130 cookbooks. He could often be seen walking from their home in Fort Point to the North End to shop for ingredients for his wonderful dishes. One of his favorite walks was around Castle Island ending with a hot dog at Sullivan’s. He was an avid birdwatcher, and he and his wife Becky enjoyed traveling to various spots in Rhode Island and throughout the United States to search out little seen birds for their life-list. Early in his career, Joe mentored high school students through the Junior Achievement program. In addition, Joe belonged to and participated in the Big Brother Association in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Joe and Becky are big supporters of the arts in the Boston area, including Fort Point. He was a supporter of many charitable organizations and was always giving back to others. Joe has left his mark on all of us and he will forever live on in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday November 1, 2023 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel at 1668 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA at 1:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Newton Cemetery, Newton, MA.
