BAYER, Jean (Cohen), of Boston. Entered into rest on July 20, 2017 at the age of 94. Beloved wife of the late Irvin Bayer. Daughter of the late Abraham and Ida (Levine) Cohen. Before moving to Boston, she lived many years in Monessen PA, Cleveland OH, and Delray Beach FL. Loving mother of Larry Bayer and his late wife, Jane Southwick, and the late Lee Bayer-Shapiro and her surviving husband, Howard Shapiro. Loving sister of Jack Cohen. Cherished grandmother of Emma Bayer, May Bayer, Abbe Shapiro and her partner Andrew Buchenot, Steven Wilke-Shapiro and his wife Rachel Wilke-Shapiro, and Jessie Oppenheimer and her husband Trey Perkins. Caring great-grandmother of Sky Shapiro-Pelis, Ian Wilke-Shapiro and Jonah Wilke-Shapiro.
She taught kindergarten for 30 years and then trained teachers at Cleveland State. She and Irvin travelled the world and volunteered at many cultural institutions. Wherever she lived, Jean made devoted friends and was a positive presence to her community. There will be a Memorial Service at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 1668 Beacon Street, BROOKLINE on Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at 2 PM. Following the service, a memorial observance will be held at Springhouse. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Jewish Family and Children's Services.
