James Krasnow, lovingly called Jimmy, but best known as ‘Zayde,’ was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and raised in Malden. He married the wonderful Debra Fried in 1963, and they had three children: David Troen-Krasnow, Karen (Dave) Szeto, and Meryl Poku. He was the grandfather to eight grandchildren: Sammie, Kenny, AZ, Shoshana, Miriam, Rosie, Dougie, and Adam. He had five beloved granddogs.
Jimmy was an active member of his synagogue, Temple Aliyah, for 50 years. He won Temple Aliyah’s Man of the Year Award in 1989, and he served as the temple president as well.
An excellent pharmacist, Jimmy graduated from Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and went on to own Pelham Pharmacy in Brookline with his wife Debra. In 1990, Jimmy was named the president of the Massachusetts Independent Pharmacy Association, and in 1991, he won the Preceptor of the Year Award at Northeastern University’s School of Pharmacy. In 1995, he won the Massachusetts Association of Retail Pharmacists’ Man of the Year Award, and in 1997, Jimmy won the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award. He served as an adjunct professor at Mass College of Pharmacy in 2009.
For many years, Jimmy worked in gerontology, earning a certificate from the University of Maryland and serving as a clinical pharmacist for hospice. He co-authored the book Guide for the Hospice Nurse. A man of many talents, Jimmy also hosted a talk show at WSAR and earned a certificate in Pain Research, Education, and Policy from the Tufts School of Medicine in 2008 (at 65 years old). He was a large supporter of Joslin Diabetes Center and served as a member on its board of overseers.
Jimmy was a kind father, generous friend, and cherished man. Donations in Jimmy’s honor can be made to Joslin Diabetes Center or Temple Aliyah.
Services will be held at Temple Aliyah on Sunday at 10:30 AM 1664 Central Ave, Needham
Shiva will begin Sunday after the burial until 4PM and again from 6:00 to 9:00PM
Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Lasalle Village 120 Seminary Ave Auburndale, ma
Minyan will be at 7:30 PM
