Harry was born on August 3, 1948 in Winthrop, Massachusetts to Samuel and Lillian (Bornstein) Katz. His childhood was spent primarily in Winthrop and Marblehead. He was a graduate of Ricker College, with a BA in Business and member of the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity.
Harry has spent his career in the textile industry and with his wife, owns Katz Yarn Sales. The business is known to most as KYS, providing textile supplies for customers throughout the New England Region.
Harry worked tirelessly to support a number of causes and was actively involved in his community including: the Duxbury Inter-Faith Council (President and a Board Member), Duxbury Council on Aging (Chair Board Member), Congregation Shirat Hayam (Vice President and Board Member), and No Place For Hate committee at both the State and local levels.Harry was the recognized for his volunteer work by receiving the Recognition of Exemplary Efforts and Commitment in confronting Anti-Semitism from the Anti-Defamation League in 2001. Harry was named Duxbury Volunteer of the Year in 2011.
Harry was active in coaching many youth softball and soccer teams. He made time to be a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 1776 and to chaperon several school music trips. As a musician, Harry played in the South Shore Bay Band, loved listening to Jazz, and especially enjoyed watching live music of any kind.
He taught his family how to love and support unconditionally, provided counsel without judgment, He lived life to the fullest and was known by his closest friends as one of those people who could be counted on to be there in their time of need, without exception. Harry is survived by his wife Wendy (Seacord) Katz of Duxbury MA, brother Phil Katz and Linda Duncan of Scituate MA, his children Jenny Katz-Borrin and Eric Borrin of Dover, NH, Becky and Dan Brown of Duxbury MA, Mat and Kate Katz of Northfield, VT and Sam Katz of Boston, MA. Harry was a proud Zeidi to Eli Borrin, Patrick and Sarah Brown, Henry and Mabel Katz
Services will be held Monday March 27th 2017 at 10am, First Parish Church, Duxbury MA, with a reception immediately following the burial at the Duxbury Senior Center, 10 Mayflower St, Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Harry’s memory to the Friends of The Council on Aging for the New Building Fund, 10 Mayflower Street, Duxbury, MA 02332 or Congregation Shirat Hayam, PO Box 2727, Duxbury, MA 02331.
