Florence G. Singer, age 90, of Newton, Massachusetts, formerly of New York City, New Haven, Connecticut, and West Roxbury, Massachusetts, died on July 4th, 2022. Devoted mother of Steven Singer and his wife Kimberly Borman, and Rise Singer and her partner Wallace Cole. Cherished grandmother of Alex Kozhemiakov (and Shannon Ludeman), Nicholas Singer and Matthew Singer. Dear sister of the late Goldie Chibnik.
Florence, known as Feige in her childhood, was born to immigrant parents and raised in New York City in a Yiddish-speaking household. She graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1949 before entering nursing school in Newark, NJ. She was a nurse at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Southern Connecticut State College while raising her children.
She eventually moved to Boston to work as a crisis intervention psychiatric nurse assigned to the night shift in the emergency room of Boston City Hospital. She served patients in several hospitals in the Greater Boston area throughout her career, pausing to live in her beloved Israel for a year.
Flo Singer had a strong sense of social justice, which she passed on to her children. She loved opera, classical and folk music, crafts, sewing and knitting, and literature.
Services at Temple Isaiah, 55 Lincoln Street, Lexington, MA on Thursday, July 7 at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
Memorial Observance/Shiva will be at Steven and Kimberly's home on Thursday, July 7 from 5:00-8:00pm.
