Edna F. Simons Marcus, of Brookline and Newton, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2015 at age 90. Beloved daughter of the late Isaac and Jennie (Lichtenstein) Simons. Devoted wife of the late James B. “Jim” Marcus for 65 years.
Edna was a 1944 graduate of Smith College, and, along with her late sister Ruth Abramson, she remained a loyal and interested alumna. She was devoted to her large and loving family of cousins, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survived by her children, Joan Yospin (Richard), Isabel Meyer (Peter), Benjamin Marcus (Anita Bernhardt), and her son-in-law Edward J. Kiley. Predeceased by her daughter Florence Kiley. Also survived by nine grandchildren: Matthew (Susan) Yospin, Gabriel (Ida Moadab) Yospin, Sarina Yospin, Jennie (Chris) Renna, Leah (Greg) Mullins, Adriana Meyer DaSilva, Joseph Meyer, Hannah Marcus (Morgan MacLeod), and Nathan Marcus, and six great-grandchildren: Kiley and Marianna Mullins, Tyler DaSilva, Jeremy and Juliet Yospin, Anson Renna, and many nieces and nephews.
With her children grown, Edna studied early childhood education at Massachusetts Bay Community College, and volunteered at the Crittenton House in Brighton. Edna loved people, animals, and nature. Her gentle and loving ways will be missed. May her name be for a blessing.
Services at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline on Sunday, September 20 at 12 noon. Interment at the Temple Israel Cemetery, 492 North Avenue, Wakefield. Shiva at the home of Joan and Richard Yospin following the burial until 7:00pm and continuing Monday from 4-7:00pm, with Minyan at 7:00pm.
