I saw Dr Stone at the Tufts clinic when it was clear I needed a whole person approach. What a kind, gracious, patient human being and physician. He liked to talk about broader subjects. The Jan. before Covid became widespread he reflected on earlier corona viruses that had been weaker, contained. He bemoaned the short-sightedness of then, in not preparing. He called the severe virus coming soon and the human cost. He was a quiet humanitarian, a good man.

I am so sad to hear the loss, I worked with Dr Stone for long time in prison facilities, very dedicated soft and heart touching doctor and we will miss him tremendously.

Dr Stone was a wonderful physician and Infectious Disease specialist. We in the Microbiology laboratory at Tufts Medical Center observed for many years his commitment to his patients and his following up on their results, even on weekends from the Cape. 
We enjoyed seeing him frequently in the Microbiology laboratory and will miss his kindness, conversation, humor and compassion, and listening to his explanations to the many  new Infectious  Disease fellows and students that joined ID rounds in the lab. 
We will miss him greatly. RIP Dr. Stone🙏🏻

Dr. David Stone was one of my favorite physicians that I worked with at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital for many, many years. He was so advanced in  his infectious disease specialty and was so dearly loved by all of his patients, colleagues and friends.
I was grazed by the needle of a dialysis patient with HIV. I immediately went to him with obvious concern and his direction.  He went above and beyond the protocol for this type of needle stick and traced the patient back to her point of diagnosis, so he could better understand the extent of the virus the patient carried. I cannot say enough about how thoughtful, generous, and such an asset to the hospital he was.
All my best to his entire family and everyone that had contact with him. He will be sorely missed, I am glad he passed comfortably. Regards.,

Dr. Stone touched the lives of so many. He was patient, kind, brilliant, had a great sense of silly humor and was always willing to teach. I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him as an RN in ID. May he rest in the sweetest of peace. 🪽❤️

It was truly heartbreaking for me to hear about Dr. Stone illness first and now about his passing. Dr. Stone was my teacher, my mentor and my friend, I got nothing from him but support during my ID Fellowship. He was an amazing human being, an exceptional physician and a great teacher. I have no words to express how sad this makes me feel, it is truly a life changing event to loose your career parent. I will always be thankful for everything that he did for me, I will always have with me all the memories at Tufts and I for sure, still quote some his wise phrases to my patients now a days. I am so sorry to hear this sad news about David's passing.   I was fortunate to be his student and later, a colleague.  David was a tireless and uncompromising advocate for his patients and he fulfilled the highest ideals of our profession and our specialty of infectious disease.   He took care of the hardest cases and never lost hope.   He was also funny and kind and had a great sense of humor.    David was a mensch and I am the better for having known him.

I always enjoyed my interactions with David, whether talking about medical issues or a potential bird watching trip which we sadly never took.  Like this little bird, David would always listen intently.  Then he would respond with kindness and understanding, often with a touch of humor.  I will never forget his warm smile and willingness to help whenever needed.

Our deepest condolences to the Stone family. Love you guys very much and wish you strength during this challenging time. I enjoyed very much getting to know him and his family during my time in Boston. He was a great soul!

A life well lived and a tragic loss of someone who was a pioneer to science, on the front lines of COVID and a domineering force in the effort to help the many Americans and of all walks of life conquering the past pandemic as well as other diseases.  He saved countless lives.  It truly pains me to the core to see such a brilliant man slip slowly in to the abyss.  David was a man who had the passion and dedication to help others.  If there is indeed a heaven, there is a place awaiting your arrival on gods throne.  To Beverly, Paul, Dawn and the rest of the Stone family, my heart literally breaks for you not only to see David pass, but to watch such a brilliant and passionate man slip away from you slowly and painfully.   I do not have an answer as to why bad things happen to good people, but I do thank David Stone for his contribution to the thousands of lives that he has saved and the advice that he has given to all of us throughout his life.  God bless David Stone as we all try to wrap our heads around  embarking on a new life without him.  May god bless you all and may David finally be at peace.  For your loss I am beyond words, but am truly sorry with every fiber of my being.  With Much Love and Admiration. Dear Marguerite and Sam (who I know) as well as the entire Stone-Riccoardone clan. I was shocked to hear of Dave’s illness with ALS. While my relationship with Dave was largely via Facebook and email, he was a man who I admired a great deal given our shared knowledge of the Ricciardones, our love of birds and photography as well as our commitment to caring for vulnerable persons as physicians and teaching and research as well. This was especially true for health care of persons affected by the criminal-legal system. Simply put, Dave was a mensch. His devotion and admiration of his family, his sense of humor and his advocacy for populations often considered expendable were admirable. This man left his mark and made this world a better place.
