Charles "Charlie" Rosen, 96, of Dedham, MA (formerly of Newton and Longboat Key, FL) died peacefully in his sleep on July 10, 2024. Born and raised in Chelsea, MA to the late Simon and Ida Rosen. He was predeceased by his brother Sam and sister Frances. Charlie leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Elaine, daughters Julie (Gary Belowich) and Michele Hagan. Charlie was the beloved Papa to Josh Belowich (Kaitlin), Emily Belowich (Dan Edlin), Aaron Belowich, Matthew Hagan, MD, Capt Benjamin Hagan, USSF, and great-grandson, Zachary Belowich.
Charlie attended MIT but ran out of money to continue his studies, so he enlisted in the Army. Charlie then finished his college career at the University of Chicago. In 1954, Charlie started Plywood Ranch which became a New England staple for home improvement supplies. From humble beginnings in Belmont, Charlie grew the company to 30 stores before selling the business in 1985 and focusing on real estate development. Charlie was an avid tennis player and golfer into his 80s. He was a founding member and Chair of the Building Committee for the Wightman Tennis Center in Weston, MA. For over 40 years, Charlie wintered in Longboat Key, FL and for many years summered in Falmouth, MA. Charlie's greatest pride and joy was his family, all of whom are eternally grateful for his love and guiding light.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 1pm in the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street in Sharon followed by a burial there. The shiva will be held on the same day at the Gables Community Clubhouse at 401-415 Dedham Street in Newton from 4-7 pm.
