Carol ‘Sandy’ Wang, of Wilmington, NC and West Harwich, MA, dearly loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend died peacefully on September 17, 2011 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, with her husband of forty-eight years by her side. She was sixty-eight years old.
Born in New York City, a graduate of Queens College and Bank Street Graduate School of Education, Sandy served as Head of Lower School at the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, DE and, prior, was Director of Development for Moorestown Friends School in Moorestown, NJ. Sandy was known as a compassionate advocate for children, an inspirational mentor to faculty and a tireless supporter of school families, but her legacy also extends to the institutions she served. She directed fundraising and development campaigns, built lasting academic programs and successfully led multi-year school building projects, including the new Pre-School Wing and Playground at the Tower Hill School, which the Trustees and Donors named “Sandy’s Place” in her honor in 2008.
Treasured and admired by her family, and looked to for wisdom and guidance, Sandy was loved immeasurably. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, she inspired all who knew her by living each day just as she had before her illness with strength, enthusiasm, grace and a beautiful smile. In the last year of her life she realized her dream of traveling internationally with her children and grandchildren, recommitted to the game of bridge, celebrating every Master Point, and continued to be an active participant in the Lifelong Learning Institute at UNCW. She enjoyed time with family and friends at her Cape Cod home over the past year and never missed one of her grandchildren’s hockey games, school plays or dance recitals. Sandy cherished the loving relationships she shared with her friends, colleagues and family, and felt lucky for these gifts every day of her life.
Daughter of the late George and Diana Glotzer, Sandy is survived by her husband, Michael Wang, children Andrew Wang and Kathy Seward, daughter-in-law and son-in-law Karen Wang and Duane Seward, brother Alan Glotzer, sister-in-law Susan Miller, grandchildren Lydia, Zachary, Sophie and Macy and her nieces, nephew and cousins. She will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 26 at 1:00 PM at The Frank H. Kenan Chapel located at 510 Arboretum Drive, Wilmington, NC 28405. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be sent to Faculty Professional Development, Tower Hill School, 2813 W. 17th Street, Wilmington, DE 19806 or Landfall Foundation, 1924 Pembroke Jones Drive, Wilmington, NC 28405.
