Bruce Hambro was born on April 9th, 1949 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. After attending Newton public schools, he enrolled in New York University, where he earned an A.B. in English Literature. He then attended Babson College, earning a Master’s in Business Administration, and Framingham State College, where he received his teaching license.
Bruce served for many years as a long-term substitute teacher in the Wellesley and neighboring school districts. He was a lifelong enthusiast of the arts and worked as a manager for folk music ensembles early in his career. For many years, Bruce worked in member services for professional associations in Massachusetts, California, and Maryland. In recent years, Bruce began his own business, doing presentations on show business stars from the Great American Songbook era in many assisted living facilities, nursing homes, public libraries, condominium communities, and country clubs. At one point, he was appearing at four or five facilities per week, and was always in demand wherever he appeared. He was working on several new shows at the time of his death on Friday, December 29, 2023.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents Seymour & Naomi (Schupper) Hambro of Newton, MA. He is survived by his sister, Vicki Blumenfeld (husband Joel) of Hollis Hills, Queens, NY; brother Marshall Hambro of Brooklyn Center, MN; niece Amy Kamensky (husband Dan) of Roslyn, NY; nephews Josh Blumenfeld (wife Michelle Witman) of Port Washington, NY; Matthew Hambro of Los Angeles, CA; and Benjamin Hambro of Golden Valley, MN; grand-nieces Mia Kamensky, Shayna Blumenfeld, and Keren Blumenfeld; and many loving relatives and friends.
