Betty Gray

Betty Gray passed away on March 14, on her 100th birthday. She was born Betty Zeltzer in Dorchester, MA to Fanny Zeltzer and Benjamin Zeltzer in 1923. She had an older and younger brother: the late Abraham Zeltzer of Providence, RI and the late Dr. Harry Zeltzer of Ipswich, MA. In 1945 Betty worked for a short time as a physical therapist. She later completed a course in Commercial Designing and went on to be a draftswoman at Stone and Webster in Boston. Betty was part of the Engineering Division and worked on the Manhattan Project. The team she worked on received a letter of commendation from the Colonel, Corps of Engineers of the United States Army Services for their contribution during World War II. Betty married Richard Gray of Quincy, MA on August 26, 1947. They lived in Randolph, MA and later Norwood, MA. She was an active member of Temple Beth Am in Randolph. Betty was an avid reader, traveler and an oil painter throughout her life.She enjoyed theatre, ballet and the arts and passed these interests down to her children and grandchildren. Many of her paintings hang in relatives' homes. She is survived by her daughter Sherri and son-in-law Richard Cherlin of Danvers, MA, her son Robert Gray and daughter-in-law Marilyn Gray of Norwood, her granddaughters: Dr. Tess Cherlin of Philadelphia, PA and Darcy Cherlin of Washington D.C, as well as nieces and nephews. In her later life Betty became a dog lover and enjoyed visits from her family pet Newman.

Betty's funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 475 Washington Street, Canton, with interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
