Audrey Roberta (Weiner) Potter of Rochester, NY and most recently of Exeter, NH passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Shirley and Samuel Weiner (of blessed memory). Audrey was a loving wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, and confidant. After graduating from State University College at Albany in 1963, Audrey drove her blue Volkswagen Bug to Rochester, NY for her first teaching job at East High School. She soon met her future husband, the handsome bachelor, Sheldon Potter, at a bowling alley social. He continued to charm her despite having a broken leg from a skiing accident. Together they raised Sharyn and Jeremy. After spending four wonderful years in Waterloo, Belgium where Audrey learned French and took up brass rubbing, she returned to school in Brockport where she earned her master’s in counseling. Audrey loved being a school counselor, organizing and facilitating “self-esteem” and bereavement groups for her students before this was a standard practice. Audrey’s colleagues always knew she had an open door to lend an ear or give a hug. Audrey valued the importance of advocating for individuals who needed help. Audrey had a love of the ocean. She was an avid reader and embraced meditation and silence. Every year, family and friends looked forward to the fabulous Thanksgiving dinners that Audrey and Shelly hosted for almost 30 years in their Brighton Home. Her retirement was highlighted by her four granddaughters, Alexis, Mira, Hannah, and Lilia. These amazing young women were the lights of her life. In her retirement, Audrey became an accomplished weaver and wove her husband, children (and their spouses, Elyse (of blessed memory) and Mike) and granddaughters beautiful Tallit (prayer shawls). We will all miss Audrey’s love, compassion, creativity and most of all her hugs.
