Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Hyman and Esther Fox, and his brother Sumner Fox. Left to cherish his memory is sister-in-law Marion Levin; nephews and their wives Jonathan and Maureen Fox of New York City, Jeremy and Julie Fox of Potomac, MD, and James and Gail Fox of Westwood, MA; great-nieces and great-nephews Stephanie, Samantha, Geoffrey, Eric, Alexandra, Michael, Sunny, and Stella; and his cherished long-time partner, Helen Shair.
Arthur was graduated from Tufts University with a BS in Education and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed a lengthy career as a professional artist, including more than 30 years as a Tech Illustrator for Raytheon Company. Painting was his greatest passion and he developed a substantial following as a renowned New England landscape artist. His works have been displayed in numerous prestigious galleries and art shows throughout the northeast, winning him many awards.
Arthur was a very cultured and worldly person. He credited a bicycle trip across Europe in his youth as having a large impact on his life. He was both an art history and foreign languages buff. He greatly enjoyed classical music, translating verses from Russian, Yiddish or French into English and spending time with his long-time partner, Helen Shair. Arthur was a past Master Craftsman at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society and past board member of the Brookline Arts Center.
Funeral Services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 1668 Beacon St. Brookline, MA on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 11:30AM with interment following at Pultusker Cemetery, 776 Baker St. West Roxbury, MA.
Memorial Observance will be held immediately following services at the home of James and Gail Fox.
