Anita Rolnick (Appel), age 91, of Needham, formerly of Valley Stream, NY on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Loving partner of her husband, David. Devoted mother to Diane Rolnick, and Lynn Baum & her husband Stephen. Active and involved grandmother to Nathaniel. Anita sustained a close and loving larger family with her nephews, nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces. She went to Chapel Hill College in NC where she studied horticulture. In WWII she was a WAC working stateside as a psychiatric social worker with returning soldiers. Anita was a passionate gardener, early on working at the New York Botanical Gardens. Later she was a judge at local flower shows, and an active member of the garden club on Long Island. With David at her side she became an avid photographer on her travels around the country and the globe. Tucson became their winter home allowing them to wander the desert providing even more wonderful backdrops for photography. In her final years Anita created a stunning garden in Lynn’s yard and helped establish a new, raised bed garden for the Avery Community. Services will be private. Shiva will be at the home of Lynn & Stephen Baum on Wednesday evening, May 2, 7-9 pm, Thursday evening, May 3, 7-9 pm and Saturday evening, May 5, after sunset. A memorial gathering will be held at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley on Monday, May 14 at 11:00 am.
