Anita M. Granoff of Wayland and previously Newton passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2024. Anita was born and raised in New York City, the younger daughter of Benjamin I. and Edith F. Marsh.
Anita attended Simmons College and soon after arriving in Boston she met her beloved David with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. He predeceased her in 2020. Moving to Newton in the 1950s she devoted the early years of married life to raising her three sons and doing volunteer work before returning to the workforce, notably with the Artists’ Foundation of Boston and later in David’s business. In the late 1960s she became involved with Temple Emanuel, eventually becoming the first woman to serve as its president, and then serving for many years in a variety of advisory and other special roles. Anita loved to surround herself with her family and close friends, as well as her Temple Emanuel community. She enjoyed gardening, travel, a little golf, Boston Symphony and Tanglewood concerts, and reading.
She is survived by her loving children Peter (Rosaline), Michael (Karen), and Mark (Shawn), her grandchildren, Benjamin (Heather Levine), Gabrielle (Seth Solway), Jeremy (Amanda), Elyssa (Tyler DeWolfe), Hannah, and Sarah, and great grandchildren, Lulav, Emmett, Aviva, Noa, and Samson. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Newbridge on the Charles for their gentle and compassionate care for Anita.
Services will be at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward Street, Newton on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Shiva will be announced then. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon.
