Allan Mann passed away on March 27, 2024, at the age of 93, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He was the beloved father of Robert and Elizabeth Mann. Allan shared the last 35 years with his treasured wife Suzanne, spending time between Cambridge, Massachusetts and Orrs Island, Maine. In his last few months of life, he was cared for by Elizabeth Saul, Veronica Gomez, Karen Waithe, Kizzie Gay and the Good Shepherd Hospice.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend, Allan is survived by his wife Suzanne, his children Elizabeth and her husband Matthew, Robert and his wife Gwen, his son-in-law Roger, grandchildren, Lindsay, Lara, and Skye and great – granddaughter Matilda, his nieces Cindy and Rebecca and their husbands Steve and Bruce, his nephew Richard and his wife Boyana, his great nieces Erin, Emily, Sophie, Niki and Katie, and their children.
Allan was born on April 20, 1930 to David and Frances Silverman in New York City. He grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, with his older sister Eleanor. After high school he attended and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston. Demonstrating early his lifelong passion and talents as an entrepreneur, Allan started at age 12, setting up newspaper stands outside of churches on Sundays in Manchester. While still in college, he started his own coated fabrics company, New Notions located in South Boston and Bristol, Tennessee. In the 1980’s, with a team of colleagues, he began a new company, Mann Industries in Framingham, Massachusetts. His companies created high-tech fabrics that held air and gases, and that were individually designed for end uses including hospital and recreational high-tech air mattresses, personal flotation devices, army raincoats, sporting goods, and medical supplies.
Allan will be remembered first for his love of family and his generosity. He had an appetite for adventure and travel as well as for cooking and enjoying a fine meal. A lifetime photographer, Allan took photographs all over the world.
A celebration of life will be held on March 31, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard
St., Brookline, MA.
