Alan Howard Robbins, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, MA on October 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in Worcester, MA to Edwin & Evelyn (Wilson) Robbins. Alan met the love of his life, Jerye Ann Seder, at a friend’s home in Worcester when he was 16. He graduated from Dartmouth College in June of 1959, and he and Jerye Ann married that summer and moved to Boston. Alan went on to attend Tufts Medical School, graduating in 1963 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Alan served in the Army Reserve from 1961-1972 as Chief, Radiology Section, 373rd General Hospital from 1964-1972. He retired with the rank of major. Alan did his internships and residency at the New England Medical Center. He was named Radiologist-in-Chief at The Boston VA in 1970 and held that position until 1996. He concurrently served as Chief of Radiology at New England Baptist Hospital from 1981-1995 and President and Medical Director of the Boston Imaging Group from 1987-1996. Alan next served as President of New England Baptist Hospital from 1995-2002. Throughout his illustrious career he authored many papers, served on many medical committees and served as president of the Massachusetts Radiological Society from 1981-1982. Alan also gave of his time as a member of the Board of Directors for The Children’s Tumor Foundation and as a member of the Board of Trustees at Lasell University and Lasell Village.
Alan was an avid skier and shared his love of skiing with his entire family. Many happy days were spent at a family home at Sugarbush, VT. He loved golf, the ocean, the mountains and traveling to lots of places with his family and friends. He and Jerye Ann spent time in Palm Beach, FL where they have many wonderful friends.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, Edwin & Evelyn Robbins, his brother Joel Robbins, and his beloved daughter, Martha Robbins. He is survived by his adored wife, Jerye Ann, and his daughters, Deborah Estabrook (and her husband Rick) and Rebecca Robbins. He also leaves two grandchildren, Evan Healey (and his wife Megan) and Rachel Browdy (and her husband Ben), and two step-grandchildren, Stephen and Kathryn Estabrook. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Robbins.
Services at Temple Shir Tikva, 141 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11:00am (livestream viewing available using the following link: www.tinyurl.com/AlanRobbins). Burial in Beit Olam East Cemetery, 42 Concord Rd, Wayland. Memorial observance at Belmont Country Club immediately following the burial through 4:00pm. The memorial observance will continue Monday evening from 7:00-9:00pm and Tuesday, October 17th from 1:00-4:00pm at Waterstone, 55 Watertown St, Lexington.
