It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Osterman on September 23, in Lancaster, WI. Jan was born on September 8, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised in Hubertus, WI, on the shores of Friess Lake with his eight siblings, cousins, and friends. At some point in the shenanigans of his youth, he was given the nickname Bucky, which is what he has always been called by his family.
Jan graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1962. Jan served our nation in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Charleen Mueller on August 16, 1969. He was a proud veteran, and a lifetime member of Amvets Post 45 in New London, WI. Jan was a welder and supervisor at Steel King Industries in New London, WI until his retirement in 2002.
Jan enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with family. When he was no longer able to participate in these activities, he spent his time playing chess, cribbage,Yahtzee and Scrabble with his family. He proved to be a formidable opponent until the end of his life.
Jan is survived by his wife, Charleen Osterman, daughter Michelle (Jason)Siedschlag and grandchildren Mason and Claire Siedschlag. He is also survived by his brothers Joe and Jim (Barb) Osterman, and sisters Judy Price and Jill (Patrick) Cull and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by the many friends he met among the staff and residents of Lancaster Health Services during the time he lived there.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Milda Osterman, brothers John and Jerry Osterman, sisters Jean and Joan, sisters-in-law Doris and Carol Osterman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5 at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 W Capitol Dr, Brookfield, WI 53005. Visitation from 10-11 am, with funeral service beginning at 11. Memorials may be made to Lancaster Health Services to sponsor resident activities.
