The family participated in 4-H for several years and there was fierce competition between Riley and his siblings in the show ring. He transferred into Bridgeport in the 7th grade, graduating from Bridgeport High School with the Class of 1992. While in high school, Riley participated in football, wrestling, track, and swing choir. He attended Chadron State College for a couple of years following graduation.

Riley worked for his Uncle Bob Schneider, Rick Newkirk, and most recently Kevin Hall for the last several years. He loved the land and caring for the animals and taught others how to do the same.
Riley was a member of the Redington Church and attended Camp ROCK for several summers throughout his childhood. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with this family, and working on various projects. He was a good cook and enjoyed baking. He loved music and enjoyed playing guitar and dancing.
