Peter Pete B. Vassos

Peter “Pete” B. Vassos, 85, of Gering, died Monday, August 15, 2005 at Heritage of Bridgeport. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday, August 18th, 2005 at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Interment will be held at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport. Friends may call Wednesday, August 17th from 1 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. . Bridgeport Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.      Peter was born April 5, 1920 in Grand Island, NE to Bill and Demetra (Psehos) Vassos. He was raised and received his education in Bridgeport public schools. He married Helen Louise Dean on March 20, 1940 in Sidney, Ne; and to this union came two sons, Tom and James. Helen Louise passed away in 1981.      He farmed in the Bridgeport area until 1955. He then owned and operated Pete’s Liquor Store until 1962 when he resumed farming part time and also sold Federal Crop Insurance until his retirement.      He is survived by his sons: Tom and wife Sheila Vassos of Dunedin, FL, James and wife Marilyn Vassos of Bridgeport; brother Ted B. Vassos of Casper, WY, sister Mary Ann Peterson of Gering; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.      His parents; brothers Gus Vassos, George Vassos, John Vassos; and wives Helen Louise Dean and Helen Bangerter preceded him in death.
