Born in Vincennes, Indiana on December 31, 1946, she grew up in the farming community of Oaktown, IN. Sarah graduated from Sullivan High School and attended Indiana State University.
She married Jeffrey Griggs on Valentines Day, February 14, 1965 in Sullivan, IN. On their first date, Sarah was first runner up for Queen at the Sullivan County Corn Festival. That’s when Jeff knew he had a winner.
Her pride in life was being a homemaker. She was also a teacher’s assistant, ran a daycare business, enjoyed working with the Longaberger Basket Company, and spent summers working at Camp Wabashi just to see more of her grandchildren.
Sarah loved making her house a home, a place for her family and friends to share life and make memories. She decorated for every season and holiday. Often, nights and weekends were filled with lunch or dinner guests followed by card games and laughter.
Jeff and Sarah raised their family in Terre Haute, IN where they attended the East Side Church of Christ. After moving to Franklin, TN in 2018, they attended Brentwood Hills Church of Christ where Sarah became involved with the ladies Bible study, Care Bears sewing group, and making blankets for the elderly.
Sarah enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and hosting others. She loved gardening and beautiful flowers. She spent tireless hours scrapbooking and journaling to create albums for her family to remember the special moments of life.
She is survived and missed by her husband Jeffrey Griggs, son E. Sean Griggs (Denise), daughters Amy Cottrell (Joe) and Angela Collins. Grandchildren Marshall Cottrell (Chistina), Macy Cottrell, Ethan Griggs, Madison Griggs, Autumn Montgomery (Carter), Lucas Collins, and one Great Grandson Mars Cottrell. She is also survived by her sister M. Jo Barrett (Kirby) of Brazil, IN. and proceeded in death by sister Ruth E Killion (Richard) of Canton, OH.
A celebration of her life will be held at Brentwood Roesch Patton Funeral Home on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2:30 pm. Visitation begins at 12:30 pm.
