Sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. We were classmates at Upperman High School in Baxter…..Class of 1961.

Mr. Maxwell was a thoughtful man with a giving heart. He and Mrs. Donna were the first patrons for my “vacation plant watering” service in the neighborhood, and he spent many hours teaching me about the plants and  showing me how to care for each one. He likely spent even more time fixing mistakes I had made once he got home, but if he did he never mentioned it. Over the years I was fortunate to spend as his neighbor - He taught me countless lessons about life, and he always did so with a smile on his face and kindness in his words. His stories would bring you to the edge of your seat, and would leave you in tears from laughing by the end of them. He met every challenge he encountered with a grin and had a way with words unlike anyone else. He was a role model for me, and I admired him deeply. I’m so grateful to known Mr. Maxwell. My deepest condolences to the family - Mrs. Donna, Seth and others.

I won't forget, it was the Spring of 2006 when the Maxwell's welcomed us to Twelve Oaks.  It was early one morning and I was taking the dogs out when I heard someone call my name.  I looked up to see my neighbor walking across the street toward me saying "I have a problem."  He was carrying a pistol and I wasn't sure what to think.  He said that he had set some traps for that pesky groundhog and ended up catching a skunk.  With relief, I asked if he needed any help.  "No Sir, I think I've got it."  He asked if I knew if the neighbor ladies had taken their walk yet.  I said yes and turned to go back up to tend to the dogs.  It wasn't five steps and I heard him unload his pistol on the skunk.  I turned and walked over to him as he proceeded to pull a string of three large traps out from under the porch, one with the skunk as he explained how to pick up a skunk so as not to get sprayed. 

I remember countless times watching him stand in his yard perfectly still holding a pitchfork for what seemed like hours only to see that he got another mole.

And then there were the "boys trips" to the mountains. We'd work around the cabin during the day and planning on drinking the whole bottle of JD at night by the fireplace.  (a half shot later we were both out!)

Paul had so many stories to tell and although I couldn't hear what he was saying very well I learned to laugh and cry with him, by reading his facial expressions.  Those were some of the best times.  

We were both so proud of our sons and shared many thoughts on parenting.  When Paul and Donna would go out to dinner with us he would always be the first to challenge my wife to test the local brew.

Thanks Paul for all the life lessons.  Rest in peace my dear friend.  That should be easy for one who has spent his life giving to others.

What is there to say about these two fine gentleman dressed to hike the Smokies!  Thank you for all the memories, stories and abundant laughter.  Our hearts are aching at the loss of such a wonderful friend.  Paul B. always has a story to tell about Paul M. when it involves Tennessee and such fond memories.  Rest in Peace Mr. Maxwell!!

Donna, I was saddened to hear that Paul passed. I hope you will be comforted by his wonderful smile and sweet memories that you shared. How lucky and blessed that you both were to have found each other and lived such a beautiful life together.  I recall many wonderful stories thru the years of you, Paul and Seth.
Seth, Always know that your dad’s amazing personality and character lives on through you and your children.
May flights of angels carry Paul to his rest.

What a great guy and special neighbor. Paul, for over 20 years we saw each other outside every week tending to our yards. No one did a lawn better than you! I simply tried not to look bad. I will miss our casual spontaneous talk, about JD, about the Vols, about learning outdoor yard lessons from a pro! You inspired me with your work ethic, how you treated people and your love for your family’s bd enjoying the simple pleasures.

I will miss you my friend…outdoor yardwork will now be a reminder of you and what a genuine nice guy you always were and what great neighbors you and Donna have been to me and Karen for over 20 years.

My late Dad always felt you being from Baxter and him from Smith County (Gordonsville) that you and he had that special kinship where “you could take the boy out of the country, but you could never take the country out of the boy!”

We are so sorry about the passing of your dad Seth.  He was an incredible soul.  We love you all and sending all our love and prayers.

When I think of Paul, I see his smile! It had a little twinkle in it. Never saw him mad or excited- he was so even tempered. Enjoyed all the times we shared together-he was special to my family. 
I know you will miss him but he is always with you- giving you that sweet twinkling smile. Hugs to all!

We met Paul and Donna almost thirty years ago.  Their handsome son asked to date our daughter.  At the time, we could not have imagined the memories we would share.  The Maxwell's are the epitome of kindness and simply put just good human beings.  Donna we are so sorry for your loss.  Paul will be sorely missed by all who loved him.  Knowing Paul was a blessing and the memories will forever be in our hearts.

Donna I am so sorry for your loss of Paul. My prayers are with you at this very hard time. May God give you peace and strength.

Paul and Donna were the first people we met when Cristina & I moved from Texas to Tennessee and into their neighborhood.   They have been the best neighbors we could have asked for.  Never an unkind word, and always willing to lend a hand (or a tool). Paul taught me how to hunt yard moles. I will miss our many “mailbox-chats,” telling us all about your recent  road trips, friend.  Rest In Peace.
