Mary Elizabeth Delaney

Mary Elizabeth (Swift) Delaney, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 in Brentwood, Tennessee. She was born on June 24, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late James Patrick Swift & Mary Elizabeth (Jordan) Swift. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Francis Delaney and brothers, Thomas Francis Swift and James Patrick Swift, Jr.

Mary is survived by son, Kevin James (Monica) Delaney, son, Brian Francis (Patricia) Delaney, and daughter, Teresa Mary (Michael) Divinnie; grandchildren Thomas (Rachael) Divinnie, Shanna Delaney, Kaitlin Divinnie (Ricardo) Lopez, Mollie Delaney, and Kerri Delaney, as well as four great-grandsons and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary was a 1954 graduate of the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Throughout her nursing career, she worked as a labor and delivery RN, a home-health nurse, and a school nurse coordinator.

Mary met the love of her life, Jim Delaney, at an Irish Dance in Philadelphia in 1955 and they shared 51 joyful years of marriage until his death. Together, they were strong, loving, devoted, and proud parents to their three children.

In addition to being an accomplished cook and baker, who could whip up a hearty meal for a crowd on short notice, Mary was also a story-teller extraordinaire. All of those who were fortunate enough to gather around her table were in for a treat of delicious fare as well as warmth, fun, and laughter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, November 14, 1922 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9100 Crockett Road in Brentwood, TN. Visitation will take place from 10:00- 11:00 and will be followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
