Martha is survived by her husband, Rochester Murray Hatcher, son Rochester Murray Hatcher, Jr. (Julie) both of Nashville, granddaughter Caitlin Merriam Hatcher, Denver, CO, brother James Robert Sory, Jr. (Barbara) of North Palm Beach, FL and sister, Louise (Liza) McMurry McKenzie (Gary) of West Palm Beach, FL and three nieces and nephews.
Martha graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1957. During this time, she participated on the swimming and diving teams. She enrolled at Vanderbilt University in 1957 and graduated in 1961 with a major in history.
While at Vanderbilt, she met her future husband, Murray Hatcher, in her junior year. After graduation in 1961, she married Murray and in 1962, gave birth to Murray, Jr. After a couple of years in New York, NY, Martha and Murray moved back to Nashville in 1965. Martha became active in Junior League, was an active runner, participated along with her husband in the Music City marathon and played local and USTA tennis events.
Martha was a devoted and caring wife, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was wise, beautiful and athletic and cared deeply for and supported generously her only grandchild, Caitlin.
The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to all who loved and touched Martha’s life especially Dr. Davis Heusinkveld and her caregivers, nurses and Alive Hospice at Woodcrest Nursing Home.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from two thirty until four thirty in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Brentwood Roesch-Patton Funeral Home located at 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN 37027. A private service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alive Hospice or Woodcrest at Blakeford.
