He was a native of Nashville and the son of the late James H. Kilgore, Sr. and Irene Watkins Kilgore. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Fay Kilgore, his son-in-law David Michael Jordan and many loving members of his family, church and community. He attended Clemons, Hume Fogg, and Vanderbilt. Mr. Kilgore was a member of Troop 26 of Boy Scouts of America, sponsored by Waverly Place Methodist Church. He served in the US Army in Italy in World War II.
In 1948 he married Ruth Fay Wright, a former schoolmate. Mr. Kilgore was a long-time member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church (formerly Waverly Place). He served as Director of Religious Drama, which produced original biblical movies/plays, and documented ceremonies and activities. He served as Church Historian and was on the Church Council and many committees. For over 50 years, he was active in the Annual Adult/Family Methodist Conference at Beersheba Springs. His life-long passion was movie making. . Kilgore worked with the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation for 42 years.
Mr. Kilgore's Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, April 22nd eleven thirty in themorning at Forest Hills United Methodist Church at 1250 Old Hickory Blvd. in Brentwood. Burial service at Spring Hill in Madison will follow. The Rev. Jim Hughes will officiate, assisted by The Rev. Donna Scott. Visitation with family and friends will be from ten o’clock until the service time at the Church and on Monday evening, April 21st from five o’clock until seven o’clock at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East in Brentwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church or Alive Hospice.
