David Fair Baldwin Sr., age 83, of Franklin, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26th, 2024. Born on September 19th, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the beloved son of the late Eli Leslie and Ethel Carlotta Fair Baldwin.
David’s journey took him from the halls of East Coast Aero Tech, where he studied aeronautics and met his future wife, Mary Alice. To later shifting his focus to funeral service, graduating as valedictorian from John A. Gupton College. He married Mary Alice Malcolm on March 2nd, 1963, in Concord, Massachusetts, embarking on a life filled with love, adventure, and service.
A proud veteran, David dedicated himself to a career in aeronautics with the U.S. Navy. He later transitioning into funeral service, where he spent 30 years helping families through their most difficult times. Although he eventually retired from funeral service, his compassion and dedication left a lasting mark on the Nashville community.
David was an active member of the Church of the Redeemer and the Middle Tennessee Veterans Support Group. He was passionate about deep-sea fishing, often taking his children, Amy and David, along with him. He also cherished family beach vacations in Florida. David and Mary Alice traveled the world together, creating memories that will be treasured by their family for generations.
Described by all who knew him as kind-hearted, patient, and possessing a gentle spirit, while also having the strength of a giant. He loved his God, his family, and his country deeply.
David is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Baldwin; his son, David Fair Baldwin Jr.; his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Tucker; grandson, Jackson Butler Baldwin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Henry Baldwin; great-grandson, Layne Henry Baldwin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Leslie, Eli James, Donald Edwin, Russell Johnson, and sisters Louise Carlotta and Muriel Perley.
David’s legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A gathering of family and friends will take place of Saturday, October 5th, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:30am at Church of the Redeemer, 920 Caldwell Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. A celebration of life service will follow visitation beginning at 11:30am. Burial will take place at Christ Church Cemetery, 15478 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37211, following the funeral service.
