"C.V." Clyde Vernon Thompson Jr.

Thompson, C.V. (Clyde Vernon) - Age 91 of Franklin, TN. Passed away January 26, 2012. Born and raised in Hickman and Ballard County, KY. Following the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, C.V. enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he became a navigator aboard a B24 bomber. He was stationed in southern Italy with the Fifteenth Air Force. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart after being injured when their aircraft was shot down on a mission over Vienna, Austria. After active duty, he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years. C.V. spent his entire career in sales and management positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of KY in Paducah and Louisville where he retired after 36 years. He was a member of the Berry Chapel’s Church of Christ in Franklin, TN and had served as an elder with the Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah, as well as Westport Road Church of Christ in Louisville. C.V. enjoyed teaching Bible classes for more than 45 years. He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, which provided many projects with his grandchildren, as well as serving the Louisville community with Habitat for Humanity. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Ruth Adams Thompson. Survived by his daughter Sheila (Jack) Danford, son Gary (Brenda) Thompson; grandchildren Jared (Jill) Danford, Ashley (Charlie) Wright; and great-grandchildren Watson Danford and Gentry Wright. Services Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with Andy Baker of Berry’s Chapel Church of Christ officiating. Visitation with family begins at 2:00 p.m prior to the service. A graveside service will follow on Sunday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Owens Chapel Cemetery in Melber, KY.
