Barbara Hill

Having lived a fulfilling 87 years with her loving husband, who preceded her in death in January 2023, Barbara Schmidt Hill passed away peacefully at home with her family on Saturday January 18th 2025 after a brief stay in Vanderbilt hospital. “Bobbie” was preceded in death by her parents John & Elizabeth Schmidt, and her beloved husband John “Jack” Hill. She is survived by children Jim (Gina) Hill, Sharon Hill, & Carolyn Homs. She was the all-time best Grandma and Nana to Alex, Grace, Jameson Hill, John “Jack” Strauss, Reuben, Jacqueline, & Esteban Homs, her dear sister Elizabeth Kremer, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins friends and neighbors.

Bobbie was born in Chicago Illinois September 8th, 1937 and in August of 1938 had a sister Elizabeth to share a sweet childhood. Raised in Chicago and later in the village of Downers Grove IL, Barbara enjoyed her job as a florist where she further developed her love of flowers and gardening. Later she worked as an executive assistant at ARGON National Atomic Energy Commission. She met Jack Hill in June of 1959, fell in love and was soon married in January of 1960. They began a family and moved to Nashville Tennessee where they built a home enjoyed by many visitors, which Bobbie welcomed frequently for many years. She enjoyed making a lovely home, planted lush English and vegetable gardens, and made a variety of both the latest and old traditional family recipes.

Barbara was happiest when family and friends were near to visit and share time together. Her family would like to welcome you all to join us for a visitation Thursday from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, and a funeral service there on Friday at 9:30AM January 24th. Barbara will be interred Friday at Harpeth Hill Gardens.
