Wanda was born to Walter Thomas Johnson and Williepearl Johnson on March 3, 1966 in Washington, District of Columbia. She was their eldest child, followed closely by her brother, Walter Thomas Johnson, Jr. She attended Calvin Coolidge High School. She worked as a mental health technician and in security. Her passion was her most recent career, working in guest relations at the Washington Nationals Baseball Stadium.
Wanda was not dealt and easy hand when it came to medical problems. Twenty-two years ago she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder (TTP). Fifteen years ago she suffered sepsis and in an attempt to save her life she lost her limbs. Watching Wanda go through that experience was terrifying and heartbreaking, but ultimately inspiring and up lifting. Wanda found a way to do everything from eating crabs to having handwriting that was not only legible, but beautiful. Wanda was also a breast cancer survivor.
Watching the Redskins and Nationals play ball was one of Wanda's favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and eating crabs in her brother's back yard. She and her mother traveled throughout the metro area and they also did volunteer work for Therapy for the Soul. She was resourceful and always looking for a way to help the many people she loved.
Wanda is survived by her mother, Williepearl Johnson, her brother, Walter Thomas Johnson, Jr, her sister-in-law, Regena Pfeffer-Johnson, her niece McKenna Pearl Johnson, nephews Isaiah Charles Johnson and Lincoln Thomas Johnson and her god mother, Lynn Davenport. She also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and extended family, like her life long next door neighbors the Robertsons. She had several god children and based on the friends who have reached out to us, several people who considered her family whom we have never met.
We would like to thank George Washington Medical Center, The National Rehabilitation Center, and multiple health care aids for giving her high quality care and the many friends at the Overlook Apartments where she resided.
A gathering for Wanda will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.fort-lincoln.com for the Johnson family.
